Private Wealth Management - The Wellsage Approach
Managing wealth is more than simply managing money - it’s about understanding what matters most to you and building a thoughtful strategy around it. Our approach is both structured and holistic; it is also appropriately tailored to your specific needs. We subscribe to the idea that starting with simplicity is often preferred and that time in the market is generally more important than timing the market*. However, we also remain attentive to complexity and the impact of major life events—business sales, liquidity changes, family transitions, or tax considerations—adjusting strategy when warranted. We are here not just to manage money but to be thoughtful of what positioning is appropriate with everything else going on in your life. As a fee‑only fiduciary, we offer portfolio management, financial planning, and financial education either as an integrated advisory relationship or as standalone services—meeting you where you are and partnering as your needs evolve. *(All investing involves risk, including loss of principal.)
We have also lived the market from multiple vantage points: institutional macroeconomic, fixed income and equity strategy research, M&A and restructuring, legal, risk management, treasury and strategic corporate finance. We build our portfolios based on modern portfolio theory concepts and inform our market views with this broad experience - we see our role as positioning clients in ways appropriate to their requirements and risk profiles (see here for ADV brochure disclosures), expressing our market views transparently and cost-consciously. Because we both manage client portfolios directly and provide ongoing advice, we are well-positioned to outline our reasoning and how that reasoning fits with your broader objectives.
Finally, we really mean it when we say “holistic” - when we build wealth strategies, we take a broad perspective and bring an open mind to your overall position and objectives. This means understanding the nature of your assets and liabilities exposure, both traditional financial and non-financial, and how your overall personal or family wealth is positioned in light of potential market risks and opportunities; we consider scenarios and discuss those scenarios with you, informing our plan. We can also advise on non-financial exposure such as collectibles, vehicles, art, real estate, precious metals and other diversifying assets, including their impacts on your family’s asset portfolio, income, expense and risk profile. We help you consider how these assets fit into your overall wealth, estate, and risk profile, and coordinate with qualified professionals for specialized advice. While we may also provide high-level guidance on valuation, insurance and tax considerations, we are not tax, legal, or appraisal experts — as we identify relevant issues we can work with your tax and legal advisors to craft solutions specific to your needs.
A more in-depth discussion of each of our services is provided here. Regardless of how you wish to partner with us on your financial journey, we look forward to working with you and seeing what we can accomplish together.
Portfolio Management
Our Portfolio Management Philosophy:
Utilize cost-effective tools and investment vehicles, when appropriate (e.g., low-cost ETFs).
Focus on wealth creation while minimizing conflicts; therefore we do not offer insurance products and do not take commissions or pay outside managers or referral / sourcing agents.
Personal service and senior-level client engagement. Direct access to a Principal Advisor to discuss investment choices, market outlooks and other topics; we are an advisory firm, not a product sales and distribution channel.
Wellsage offers Portfolio Management Services to support our clients’ goals, objectives and risk profiles. Our philosophy is to utilize low-cost exchange-traded funds (ETFs) where possible and only introduce additional complexity, such as options overlays, individual securities, or diversifying asset classes, when appropriate. We seek to provide high levels of client service and transparency in all we do.
We typically build portfolios with minimal or no use of mutual funds, reflecting our preference for cost‑efficient, ETF‑based allocations. All Wellsage portfolios are created and managed in‑house (see here for more information), rather than outsourced to third‑party managers.
Wellsage understands how important it is to effectively (and prudently) use the latest available technology when doing so supports excellent client service. We therefore leverage the use of technology and advanced portfolio concepts when we anticipate benefits for our clients; we do not rely on it to replace sound judgment, reasoning or the application of experience.
When clients engage Wellsage Wealth to manage their Portfolio, we offer five hours of complimentary Financial Planning Services during each year of engagement. This is above-and-beyond the included Portfolio Management engagement services, which include (without additional cost) all onboarding and Portfolio-related discussions, client portfolio suitability assessments, regular portfolio monitoring, client updates and reviews. We encourage an ongoing dialogue with our clients as we view the relationship as one of mutually-beneficial partnership.

Financial Planning
Our Financial Planning Philosophy:
We offer a holistic assessment of our client’s objectives and the crafting of a financial plan that is suitable for their objectives and risk profile.
As with all our services, we have no commissions tied to our advice and clients are welcome to implement our recommendations either within our portfolio management framework, or at another firm. We support you as your Financial Planning advisor regardless of how you decide to implement our recommendations.
We recommend clients understand the pros and cons of engaging in an hourly service such as Financial Planning vs. an Assets Under Management (“AUM”) based service such as our Portfolio Management Services.
Wellsage Wealth Management offers Financial Planning Services as part of our fiduciary commitment to clients. We offer both broad-based and modular planning, enabling clients to engage us on the full spectrum of their financial lives or focus more narrowly on issues of specific concern. Clients retain control over whether and how to implement our recommendations, and Wellsage receives no commissions or product-based compensation. Our sole source of compensation is the fee arrangement disclosed in our advisory agreements.
Financial Planning services may include:
Cash Flow and Debt Management
Risk Management
Education Planning
Employee Benefits and Compensation Planning
Retirement Planning and Investments Consulting
Estate Planning and Charitable Giving
Small Business Investment Consulting
Clients may engage Wellsage for comprehensive planning across all areas of their financial lives, or for modular planning focused on specific goals, such as retirement readiness, college funding, or estate considerations.

Financial Education
Our Financial Education Philosophy:
We view financial literacy as foundational to building lasting wealth
Our view is that a holistic approach to understanding fundamental concepts is more useful to most investors than an in-depth, specialized knowledge in technical domains.
Our general philosophy to investing is founded primary in the Graham-Dodd Value Investing school, made (more) famous by Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger through their investment vehicle, Berkshire Hathaway.
This foundational approach is further informed by enhanced learning concepts, such as options and derivatives. To the extent these may be helpful in understanding the investing landscape, we may also cover such topics at the conceptual level, when and if appropriate.
Wellsage Wealth believes financial literacy is core to building and maintaining intergenerational wealth.
In addition to portfolio management and financial planning, Wellsage Wealth Management offers Financial Education Services as part of our fiduciary commitment and holistic wealth management approach to clients. These services are designed to equip clients and their families with the knowledge needed to make informed financial decisions that help provide a basis for growing wealth for both current and future generations. Education is offered without commissions or product sales and is delivered either as part of an ongoing advisory relationship or on an hourly basis.
Some of these services include:
Individual and Family Education
Next-Generation and Youth Programs
Business Owner and Executive Education
Wellsage views financial education as a critical extension of our advisory role. By providing knowledge that empowers clients to participate confidently in financial decision-making, we strengthen the advisor-client partnership and help ensure that wealth management strategies are sustainable across generations. All education services are offered on a fee-only basis, consistent with Wellsage’s fiduciary duty and commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards.
